This is the third part of my little ‘Top Gun Movie’ project and is the ‘bad guy’ or as it is known the ‘MiG-28’. This was basically a NFWS (Naval Fighter Weapons School aka ‘Top Gun”) F-5E that was painted up black with national markings for an imaginary nation.
A set of decals to convert 1:72 A-4F Skyhawk & “MIG-28” F-5 to full “Top Gun” livery of the iconic aircraft from the 1986 movie and provide options for display. The pictures show how Italeri Skyhawk and Hobbyboss F-5e Tiger II kits may be built and finished with these decals but they can be used with any1:72 scale kits.
This is referred to by Charlie, but not shown, in the film. The enemy aircraft are referred to as MiG-28s. The fictitious MiG-28 in Top Gun is actually an F-5, so DCS technically has it already, as an AI. But DCS is all about realism, which is the opposite of fiction. :) #3. 351SBE. As people stated the MiG-28 is fictional- but the question still remains who was supposed to be flying them. First, let’s take a look at the planes. As we can see from the Red Star they are clearly supposed to be from a Communist nation. The Northrop F-5 is a second-generation fighter that were used as MiG-28s in Top Gun. The F-5s used in the movie were actual U.S. Navy F-5s that were used at TOPGUN and repainted for the movie.
